25, 2005 - American College of Gastroenterology Gives
Presidential Awards to GCSA for Best paper
San Antonio - November 14, 2005 – The Gastroenterology
Clinic of San Antonio (GCSA) today announced that its
research team, led by Dr. Charles W. Randall and Dr. Carlo
M. Taboada, won a prestigious Presidential Award for a
paper recently presented at the American College of Gastroenterology’s
annual meeting.
The
American College of Gastroenterology held its annual meeting
in Honolulu, October 27th thru November 2nd. There were
a total of 1700 abstracts presented at this year’s
meeting and out of those 1700 abstracts, 3 abstracts received
the prestigious Presidential Award in the esophagealforegut
category. There are more than 8,500 physicians from over
75 countries that are members of the American College
of Gastroenterology.
Dr.
Randall and Dr. Taboada received the award for their abstract
on esophagealforegut. Their research found that many patients
with upper abdominal complaints have monthly disturbances
of their stomach. The results of their study showed that
up to 97% of patients with such symptoms as fullness,
bloating, nausea, burning, and pain can be managed effectively
by accurate diagnoses and medical treatment. For the past
several years, the GCSA clinic has been using a special
technique know as Electrograstropraphy to diagnosis esophagealforegut,
which few gastroenterologist in our area are trained in
its application. Dr. Randal states, “For years patients
having these symptoms but with a negative evaluation have
been told by their physicians either to not worry about
it, we don’t know what is causing your symptoms,
or live with it. Now we have the ability to diagnose and
effectively treat these patients”.
